    KENNEWICK -- In the Mid-Columbia, stimulus money from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act has been spent to clean up Hanford, assist first-time homebuyers, help small businesses and finish rebuilding Road 170 in Franklin County.
    But few people know it also helped pay for Club Mentor at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Benton and Franklin Counties last year. The money runs out this month, and while Greg Falk, Boys & Girls Clubs president, expects the federal grant to be renewed, it hasn't happened yet.

    In 2010 Washington State Mentors received a Department of Justice grant to assist at-risk youth in avoiding violence, negative behavior, and substance abuse and to support them in staying in school and achieving academic success.  The project will provide mentoring for 150 youth who receive services in the child welfare system, provide technical assistance to mentoring programs, and build organizational capacity.  The project will serve youth ages 6 -18 years of age living in King, Kitsap, or Snohomish counties.

    RENTON — Growing up in Charlotte, N.C., Jamar Adams couldn't comprehend the breadth of the opportunities available to him.

    Adams didn't know his father. Nobody in his family had gone to a four-year college. He was conditioned to believe there was a low ceiling for his expectations.
