Battle Ground School District Prevention/Intervention Department offers a comprehensive Life Skills program that brings awareness classes to students before the onset of experimentation with tobacco, alcohol and other unhealthy behaviors. Prevention Specialists visit 5th and 7th grade classes for five sessions about drug abuse, advertising,refusal skills and anger management. Joshy, a 9 year old Tribal boy, was matched with an eccentric retired special education teacher, Tim. Both of them were looking for a meaningful connection. Joshy had missed many days of school prior to being matched with Tim, a retired teacher. Although very bright, Joshy was falling behind in his academic work.
