Emotional Growth

I can best summarize our relationship with Washington State Mentors as more personal than business. Aside from providing the intended services as an advisor, training resource, grant administrator, etc. They also provide an intangible but yet perhaps more important service, encouragement and moral support for our mentoring program.

We can change the world, one child at a time.

After taking Ulises to Camp Dudley on Clear Lake his counselor informed me he was a little shy at first but quickly overcame his fears. I immediately saw a change in him, I saw a young man with confidence.

I was at my breaking point. I had lost all hope and was about to give up when I met Tom (Deputy Director, Washington State Mentors). The mentoring community needs Washington State Mentors and people like Tom who really believe in what we are trying to do.

These last two years have probably been the most gratifying for me as a mentor because of his increased interest, maturity and confidence.

On his energy alone, we could go forever. I think he appreciates me as much as I appreciate him being a kid.

Jennifer is such an important part of my life. Little did I know how enriching and rewarding my life would become as Jennifer’s friend.

It is much more than just enjoying each other’s company, we share a level of trust as well. I understand her past, and she knows that I sincerely care about her future. What an honor it has been to share some of the little steps long the way.

I’m very proud of Drew because he hasn’t given up on himself. He’s now attending school regularly, his grades are constantly improving, he’s trying to develop a new circle of positive friends and demonstrating a sense of hope and possibilities for what his future can be.

Brandi is like an oak tree with deep roots as solid as a rock. The consistency, stability and love she brings to Krystal have effected a powerful change and helped her blossom.
