The Legislative Youth Advisory Council Seeks Applicants

The Legislative Youth Advisory Council (LYAC) is now accepting applications through Friday, June 11th 2010.  Please forward this announcement to any youth or other youth serving organizations in Washington State that may be interested in the Legislative Youth Advisory Council and other civic engagement opportunities.

The Council members’ goal is to “ensure the Council members represent the diverse population of Washington State residents,” so please share this application widely.

Are You Culturally Competent for the 21st Century?

Cultural Competence and The Impact of Stereotypes
Participants will learn to develop their cultural competence through interactive exercises, video and lecture. Participants will examine the effects of stereotypes on target groups and how stereotyping impacts cross cultural relationships. Questions like: how are we perceived by others; what messages do we hear about who we are; how are we portrayed by others; and how this effects our relationships are all explored.
